A tropical paradise without the jetlag

Cape Verde is an archipelago of ten islands situated 385 miles off the west coast of Africa in the macronesia region of the North Atlantic. The islands are relatively close to the Canary Island, easily accessible from Europe. Just 5.5 hours away from the UK at one hour behind GMT, Cape Verde is a tropical paradise without the jet-leg.

The islands have a rich cultural history that reflects its mixed African and Portuguese roots. A strong heritage of music, dance and literature is evident in everyday life on the islands. The official language of Cape Verde is Portuguese, although a number of Creole languages are widely used around the islands. Currency on the islands is the Cape Verdean Escudo, which has been linked to the Euro since 1999. Proposed membership of the EU offers further evidence of Cape Verde’s strong European connections and aims.
