Skiing and snowboarding

Bulgaria offers excellent skiing and snow boarding opportunities. There are three main resorts, Bankso, Bovorets and Pamporovo all with runs for beginners, intermediate and advanced. The mountains have ski schools with lessons in English, the après ski is atmospheric and best of all the prices are much cheaper than other European destinations.

One of the main reasons Bulgaria is bustling as a ski resort is because the prices are very affordable, more so than any other resorts in Europe. Enjoy excellent runs, fun après ski and all for a fraction of the cost of other European mountains.

Family resort

Bulgaria is the ideal resort for a family holiday as the runs are ideally suited for beginners and intermediate making it a great place for the family to be able to ski together. There are of course black runs for those ambitious members of the family to test their talents off-piste or on generally harder runs.

Ski Schools

The Bulgarian mountains have an array of ski schools and English is widely spoken. The schools have excellent reputations, with many instructors as ex professionals so you can pick up tips from the best in the field.

Snow levels

The mountains in Bulgaria are slightly lower than the more famous resorts in the Alps. However, where the freezing Siberian winds meet the moist air from the Mediteranean, Bulgaria has a snow record that matches anywhere in Europe - and is a fraction of the cost!

The bustling country of Bulgaria enjoys several cultural events throughout the year. The events attract many visitors and people from other regions and countries to the various cities in Bulgaria and everyone gets together to enjoy the festivities.

Festival of Masquerade Games Jan 27 – 29 2006 City of Pernik

This is the most important cultural event in Bulgaria and attracts thousands of visitors, tourists and Bulgarians every second year to the city of Pernik.

What are they celebrating?

• The masquerade rites from the past to the present, and to relive the different traditions of their ancestors

What happens?

• People from Bulgaria, Asia, Africa and other Europeans unite in the city of Pernik for a grand cultural event.
• More than 5000 people unite for the grand celebration in the street.
• Everyone dressed in masquerade and celebrates the long traditions of their ancestors
• People dance in the street in their fancy-dress outfits and the performances of the masqued men, also known as Survakari or Kukeri, is a wonderful show of rhythm, sound and colour.

When does it happen?

• Every second January

Jazz Festival

Bansko is home to the International Jazz Festival which is run every year from 8-13 August. This year is the 10 year anniversary of the event and is bound to attract many people from Bulgaria and also other jazz fans from other countries.
